Attendance and Absences
Missing school means your son or daughter misses out on vital information and maintaining learning routines. This can result in a loss of confidence and missing out on forming vital friendships.
Attendance is recorded each day. Parents or caregivers are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day, including sports days unless:
- your child has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should be made after school or during holidays)
- your child is required to attend a recognised religious holiday
- your child is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)
- your child is sick, or has an infectious illness.
Students need to attend school regularly to meet the course requirements of the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and Higher School Certificate (HSC).
If you are having difficulty getting your child to attend school regularly, you might like to talk to the year advisor, principal or school counsellor.
If your child has to be absent from school for any reason including arriving late or leaving early, please provide an explanation to the school using the KMHS App, the parent portal, in writing or over the phone.
BYOD – Bring Your Own Device
At Kariong Mountains High School we encourage the 'Bring Your Own Device' option (for all cohorts from Years 7 - 12) as it can help streamline the connection between learning at school and learning at home.
Students unable to bring their own device are able to borrow a Chromebook from school for the day. The form to register for the Day Loan Laptop System is located on the Parent Resources page.
On our policies page you can access the current guide for parents and students interested in bringing a device to school. There is also a copy of the agreement and responsibilities students must follow if they chose to bring a device to school.
Please feel free to contact the school if you have any queries in relation to BYOD.
